Historical furniture

The  basis of the collections are pieces obtained when accumulating ethnographic material, carried out in the Přerov area in connection with the regional ethnographic exhibition in Přerov in the year 1893.

After the year 1918, the collection was expanded by a modest-sized collection of furniture from the furnishings of the château in Přerov and in the 1970s by part of the furnishings of the château in Rokytnice u Přerov.

Items in the collection

The collectible items can be placed in terms of time into the period from the end of the 18th century up to the middle of the 20th century. Of greatest interest are the items of furniture of the Biedermeier period. The collection of historical furniture of the Comenius Museum in Přerov primarily come from the Přerov region. As regards the ethnographic collectible items, these primarily come from the region of Haná and Wallachia, from where these items were obtained.

The collection primarily consists of town and folk furniture. The Empire furniture from the first third of the 19th century and the collection of burgher Biedermeier furniture from the first half of the 19th century rank among the most valuable items in the collection. Among the most important historically are the collection of painted folk furniture from Wallachia. 255 recorded collectible items (registration numbers) are in the collection in all.

The collection is administered by Mgr. Kamil Lukeš, DiS. (Social Sciences Department).
